In kicking around my cash (er, yen) for my next purchase from the western hemisphere, I found myself perusing boardgame sites. There have been quite a few I've been meaning to pick up and realized that it would be fun to convert over a boardgame with the DA minis, story, etc. It could be quick and dirty, like Frag or something, or more convoluted, like Dungeon Twister, or horribly impossible (Hacker engine, anyone?).
I used to do this all the time as a kid (I converted Monopoly to The Real Ghostbusters, and it was waaaaay better!)

So, just for fun, why not this for DA?

Ok. First, the purpose:
You must move into a location, able to pay the Manpower Cost of keeping it up. If a location is already taken, you may stay to try to take it or move on, but in doing so you loose some Barter (and by doing this too much, you loose Face, which makes Recruiting rougher).
You can recruit special troops everytime you roll a 1, and through random cards in the Exploration and Dumb Luck cards. You require Barter and/or Face to do this. Special troops add greatly to your chances.
Taking over a Region earns you more Barter, so that you are free from the Prevailer church, but this introduces a NEW token to the board that takes it's turn after the turn where a Region was taken. This is the Inquisition, and they start their turn from the Inquisition square. The inquisition never pays Barter nor looses Face. On the contrary, they collect Tithe, which goes to the Church.
Anyone landing at the Church after this may exchange Face for Tithe (Barter)
Otherwise, the only way to glean Barter is to pass Port City, where you are given your Stipend (Barter). Your troops are also replenished.
(More rules on the way...)

Notes:
You cannot Barter for the Tubes/Tunnels/Sewers--Rather, you roll again. If you roll a 1, you may freely move to another Tube/Tunnels/Sewer space. You can lay Traps on these spaces.
The Grounds Spaces are calls for war. In Dumping Grounds, you challenge anyone. In Kiling Grounds, it's a Battle Royale.
There are only 4 regions that can be bartered, and they are those that have Forts.
The Great Hall and War Shelter may not be Bartered. Instead, a random monster is fought (Great Hall), or a game of chance is played (War Shelter). The winners get Barter.
The Grav Field and Sewage Plant grant Energy bonuses to those already owning Energy-type locations(Like Core). Other location types: Resource (Like Mega Mall), Face (Like the Forts), and Barter (Great Hall).
More rules coming soon... Note that the locations WILL change, as I want the Regions to be on different sides (^_ -)

Nice idea, nice work on the Monopoly Dark Age stylee.
You could also modify other games to fit the world of Dark Age though:
- Doom or Descent style would be cool as a combat based boardgame,
- Runebound style could be good for exploration games,
- Settlers of Samaria anyone?

On a whim I whipped up some tile sheets that I'd cut up to fit my boardgame... It's a 1" grid system (all images taken from Mayang (http://www.mayang.com/textures/)). Feel free to print onto cardstock and have some fun (^_ ^)v
Enjoy the files here (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/mechanicaldream/files/Misc/) (My Mechanical Dream yahoo site).
More to come!
