OK, so as I am pianting up my last five unfinished Skarrd models, I was curious as to how many points I actually had painted up. Now, since I have access to the final Skarrd list that will be in Exodus, it was pretty easy for me to figure out. Including my favorite Psychogenics and three proxy-conversions for an unreleashed unit, my total Skarrd army is:

2300 POINTS!

Which got me to thinking about how much Forsaken I have painted... my core Forsaken, without any of the Saint-specific units (for St. Mark, that would include Saint Mark himself, Reaver, Lucky, Shades, Junkers, and Lucky) my total comes to a little under 2100 points. But each saint has a number of special units, and I have about 350 points for each, so my total painted Forsaken is

OVER 2400 POINTS!

Dragyri... not so much. I know I have 750 points of Slaves, but not so much Trueborn.

Brood, I have 1000 points painted, but that includes nine Broodhound proxies.

So what I really need to do is figure out about another 100 points for my Forsaken (a Bane and Bane Grenadier to the small Bane Squad would work,) and another 200 points for my Skarrd (another eight Buzz-blades couldn't hurt!) and I can have a massive 2500-point Dark Age game!

Very impressive. Gives me hope that I might finish an army someday. Coverted and Drillheads? I really hope they get models soon.

Anyway, I await your 2500 point game battle report.

Wait, 750 points of slaves! My god, how many have you painted!? Must be upwards of 50, probably 60!

I've painted 61 of my own slaves in the new color scheme, I had about 20 painted the old way before I stripped and converted five of them for my Taskmaster and Guardslaves. Those were the older, larger models. And I worked it out, I have about 700 points of Ice Caste Trueborn, so I can do almost 1500 points of Dragyri. I have plenty of Air Catse Trueborn painted, but no slaves finished to go with them yet.

I'm working on the camera situation, really.

Trust me, once I get a camera, you guys are gonna be sick from the amount of pictures I'm going to post. Not only do I have my stuff, but all the stuff I paint for my friends, which is different than mine... loadsa Dark Age stuff!

My fault really. I was at Punky's house after GAMA. Should have taken some pics, but we were just all beat from the show... There is always next time...

Most of my Forsaken and Dragyri are over the Lord Of Excess's Pleasure Palace anyways, nothing lost :)

I even made it a point to take my 1500 point Dragyri madness to try out any one of Punky's armies, but just never got a chance to throw down. But I will make sure no matter how tired I get at the up coming cons, I will make it a point to get some games in. Nothing that a couple of red bulls cannot fix. So if any of you want a piece of me, know that I will have my army with me, all you need to do is ask

AFAIK you even threw out(or sold) some brood, before making the Skarrdkiller list didn't you?

This means you've painted more than 1000 points of brood. Or am I wrong?

Yeah, I sold my old Brood army, it was 2020 points including conversions for Mean Jellybean, Helexa, Howler, and four Broodhound proxies. I had one squad of everything, and it was boring as hell to build armies from.

Who did you sell it to?

So did you ever get that game in? How well does DA handle at this scale? That goes for the Gen Con massive game as well for that matter.

I played the GenCon one, and it went well I thought- but was 6 players with the obvious slow downs....

I have found that DA actually plays extremely well at 1000-1500.

Our best game was at 1250 I thought.
With 2 players it still moves fast and was extremely fun.

I think it has good flavor at this level, and I think the game doesn't even really get fun until 750...

but that is me....

The big game at GenCon suffered due to the fact that Dragryi were one side (i.e. few shooters and short ranges) vs Forsaken/Skarrd (i.e. at least 1/2 shooters, some with astronomical range).

Big games, I think, will start a bit tedious if one or more side is primarily CA troops. You spend quite a bit of time doing the oblique movements as the forces approach.

Once you get by all the initial movements, and the fight begins in ernist, it playing more or less like the smaller games. The alternating activations really keep the game at a similar feel across size levels, but you just don't complete the loops of a turn as fast.

Primarily, the big games dilute the impact of game bending uniques, as they don't activate as often. It can also increase the impact of things that last "until the next activation".

On the Skarrd/Dragyri side things went pretty fast after the first couple of move/manover turns. Once it got down to the killing and the dying it went really fast and brutal.

I remember when I first joined the DA forum that there was some debate about "large games" - 1500 to 3000 point armies each side. Sounds like the rules work very well - but I never had any doubts

Oh yeah, you told me that when you did the deed -- must have slipped my mind.

At least they went to a good home.
