...damn you to hell!

5 days ago I didn't know what Dark Age was, outside of some interesting logo in Punkbunny's .sig on the Warmachine forums. Here I am now excited about being able to take part in a demo at GenCon and wanting to pick myself up a Saint Mary force.

Gorramit!

:P

Seriously though, you've got a pretty good looking game here. It appeals to the part of me that still loves the grit of 40k and Necromunda, without appealing to a player base of 10 year old kids. I'm kinda disappointed it took me this long to find out about the game, but that isn't surprising seeing as it took a lot of effort to get Confrontation here, and even then that's only in limited supply as well.

I don't know if anyone else here will pick up the game, but I'm getting some models regardless.

I'll send you a christmas card and we call it even m'kay

Welcome Goliath, in these parts of the web you should call Pharasite .... Stunke :D

Goliath

Yeah, I figured he'd have a different name here. Just couldn't remember what the dang thing was :P

Just so I'm clear, there's two books out currently with Evolution on the way. Exodus is the one with the rules for Saint Mary in it, yes? Does that also come with the core rules, or will I need the first book for that as well?

Stunke

The rulebook has two free army lists. Anyother release holds two armylists.
So yes, Genesis and Exodus are needed to play with saint Mary.
But once you read through both books, you'll notice that a lot of troop types are included in both atmy lists, so switching form one saint to another isn't a big deal at all.

I can guarantee you one thing though, something I didn't want to put on the privateer boards: There is no chance that you'll go broke from this game.

Well, yes, if you play with every army released for Dark Age, but having three 1500 point armies costs about the same as a single 1500 points Wamachine army, and I might even be inclined to say it's even cheaper than that.

A box of 6 Banes which are the lowest priced (pointwise) models for Forskan will cost you 27$ for 240 points. This means you get a full squad, no need to buy extra blisters and a spec. ed. mini to boot. For half the price of 85 points of WM infantry.

I really, really love warmachine, but nothing compares to the price of Dark Age.

G'day Goliath and welcome to our Dark corner. I read your comments over at the PP forum and wondered if we would see you here.

I'm glad to hear Stunke/Pharasite is spreading the word. Even if he is treading on thin ice to do so. ;)

You are correct in that we currently have two books available; Genesis and Exodus. Evolution is being worked on now and will -hopefully- be released in the Oct/Nov time frame.

Yes, you do need Genesis for the core rules. We thought it would keep the cost down to a manageable level by not reproducing the core rules in each book.

Cheapest... online... store... ever!

The owner is part of the playtester crew too, so he sells his Dark Age as the lowest prices anywhere, and P&P is a joke. 3

Heh, no shame in saying that. For starters, I see that you don't need as many models as you would for WM, and the models are a good deal smaller so it's perfectly understandable.

I'll also be able to use some of the models in a couple of RPGs I play, which is doubly good.

I'm glad to hear Stunke/Pharasite is spreading the word. Even if he is treading on thin ice to do so. ;)

He's just eager about the product. No real harm done that I can see :) His eagerness and love of the product is part of the reason I'm here.

I'll see what sort of price I can get when I'm State-side for GenCon, but the prices do seem good. Now if only they had Exodus available :P

For the exchange rates as they are now, it looks like much of what Artemis sells is actually more than retail here.

Indeed. I should be able to bring some people into the fold when I get back from GenCon with some shiny new models.

Welcome to Dark Age!

It's always nice to see someone expanding their gaming horizons, especially from Privateer. They have their place and I certainly enjoy their games but I find Dark Age to be much more svage, aggressive, and thoughtful (in the sense that you have to think!)

Reserve a few of your shiny pennies for some models you may not have seen yet. We can't promise yet, but there may be a few previously unreleased figs at the con. It's in the hands of the caster now so cross your digits.

You get overtime??? Lucky beggar!!! I work 60+ hrs per week for a basic salary way below what I'd be earning back in the UK.............. no overtime either.......... *sigh*

Oh, and welcome to the board Goliath

Goliath
08-03-2006, 12:14 AM
Yeah, overtime here is good. I work a basic 40 hour week, and am currently adding 18 hours on top of that. 15 of that is at time and a half too ;)

When I occasionaly work at my fathers office being a stand in secretary I get paid $12 an hour to sit on the computer and play games. My whole purpose is to just be there in case anyone comes in. I don't answer phones or anything. Of course this only happens every few weeks about, so it's just enough to feed my gaming addictions.

Oh you wouldn't believe the amount of: Dammit I cant see pictures/open files/download documents/open topics that contain abbreviations like dp/stuff going on over at the playtesters board.

When anyone cals PT hard work, it's mostly because it's all done FROM work

I've yet to hear about someone who actually played at game at their desk but I am sure Punky, Demorney, or Shinobi would have managed at some point.

Goliath

Heh, I can imagine it, I'm just glad our work trusts is to be mature and not look at 'inappropriate' content ;)

All going well, I'll get to work on Xmas Day again and going by how quiet it has been in the past I may be able to get some painting done at the very least!

The problem with GenCon sales is: I have to leave the Mini Hall and go all the way down stairs, fight the crowds of unwashed Yugi-kids, and walk by all the other booths full of fabulous coolness with money still in my pocket by time I find the DA booth.

That's time I could be playing.

PP's booth tends to be fairly kewl - especially when they have the Iron Lich there. You may also see at least one hot body (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=25926098) hanging around the Battlefront booth, too ;)

I don't think I'll have any problem navigating through the Yugi-punks, myself .. they don't call my Drewbacca for nothing. And there's very little more intimidating than a guy in a kilt!

Yeah, that's the BF article. She's even a of the FoW forums too, so if you really want you can 'talk' to her there too :P

I'll certainly be tracking her down to say Hi, esp since I'm from the country that makes the game she loves ;)

Heh, sadly no, I don't work for Battlefront. I do know a few people that do, however, and it seems like a pretty kewl place to work.

Me coming to GenCon is purely co-incidental, and more related to not having had a proper holiday away from work for almost a year!

Yeah, the exhange rate has dropped quite considerably since last time I checked.
from 745 to 583 actually!

But packing and posting is still horrible, especially when ordering anything from outside EU.
It's a real gamble hoping you won't be taxed 150% percent, plus 25% VAT (I think you call it) before you get the package delivered.

The warstore doesn't have brood models, and the miniaturemarket hasn't got Dark Age at all, so even though americans might benefit from those two stores, I can't say that I will.

TheWarStore has kind of fallen behind on keeping up with dark age releases I think. FRPGames has been keeping up well though.

And supporting FRP Games actually does help support a real-life brick-and-mortar game store with tables and terrain. And its local to me! :D
