Welcome, Blue Dragon. I'm going to let the good community here jump all over your question, but I wanted to greet you at the door.

Welcome! Yes Dark-Age is really a cool game. A true Sci Fi skirmish system. Short of reading the back cover of the rulebook it's a great game that isn't too hard to learn, and not too hard on the pocketbook.

Is this game like Warhammer? I canNOT keep paying for those minis! Getting way too expensive!

Are there any vehicles or other siege weapons?

This game is based of the artwork of Brom. Typical games range from 500 - 750 points with 8 - 12 models in an army. There are no vehicles or seige weapons, as the game is strictly a skirmish based system. The system itself is an alternate activation game, unlike most mainstream games this allows you to be more reactive and adapt more like real combat like situations. The minatures themselves are great looking, lend themselves to be easily painted and are very light on the pocketbook. An averagr boxed set of six minis costs $27 USD. Right now there are four factions to choose from, with another two coming out this fall. Check out the home page of this forum to see some of the minatures and better in depth explanations of the factions better than I could right here.

If you're familier with GW's products .. think of Dark Age as closer to Necromunda than anything else. Sure, it doesn't seem to have the same advancement rules that Necro does, but that's not a bad thing.

Oh, and the models are all metal, not plastic like Necro ;)

Dark Age is a game where you watch your own miniatures shoot themselves in the head and learn to enjoy it.

So are the skirmishes quick or take a long time like GWs battles? The figures do look really cool. I like the theme - kind of Dunish with ancient stuff. Looks cool. Can the models only be purchased through the website or are they available through stores?

Oh, and Nick says hi from his forum.

Nick? Could you be more specific? Which site/forum? I know a Nick that runs a gaming site/forum, but odds are this is someone else.

Most battles should not last over an hour after the first few games, and you get the hang of it.

You can either purchase them from our on-line store, your Local store or many on-line hobby stores.

Yeah, Nick from the gamestoresindex forum. Pr0fane made a post there. This forum knows him?

It has a nice skin to it now.

He still has a pretty small forum, kind of nice to start off on the ground frloor of a new forum.

My name's Nick! But I'm a different one. There are kinda a lot of us, so you do have to be specific.

Anyways, welcome aboard! Seems like your questions have been pretty much answered, but I'll throw in my 2 cents for the 'ell of it. If you're coming from GW games, then I think you'll find this game to be sorta a relief. GW games, even without GW prices, are expensive due to their size and take a long time to play. The rules don't focuss a lot on individual trooper combat and are designed for ease with larger units.

DA, on the other hand, is quite different. There are no phases, you alternate activating individual models or units. once everyone has activated their units, the turn ends and a new one begins. The game uses action points, essentially a collection of points that can be used for moving, attacking, casting spells, and various other actions. The focus is also far more zoomed in with fewer models per side, and you'll quickly start to see the units destinguish themselves with their specialties. The rules may actually seem simpler than GW's games at first, but there's a lot more there than meets the eye. Once you get into held actions and other special rules things tend to get a bit more detailed. Essentially, the rules can be however complex you want them to be.

Also, welcome to the boards!

I'm just going to jump on the What-does-it-cost-to-play thing.

As mentined as box set costs around 27$, what wasn't mentioned is that you wont have to buy extra minies, or blisters for that squad after buying a box.
A box contains a max-sized squad for less than the half sized squads other companies provide.
You'll not only find the price per model low this way, but due to the nature of the game, you're even investing a bit in a future army.

This is all dependant on playstyle, but personally I don't field full sized squads before I'm into 1000+ point games, so once you've got a hold of a box, you are set with that unit for every thing from small skirmishes to big battles.

You can make armies out of leaders and of squads, you can mix and match totally as you see fit, and generally this means that you can make this game fit into whatever price category you see fit.

Is this game like Warhammer?

These following statements are personal opinions, and is in no way representative of the Game or the company in any way, unless you'll actually see anyone else chime in on this.

Actually, the two games couldn't be further apart.

1) You'll notice Dark Age staff on these boards actually talking with the players, and in a firendly manner too.
2) There are no armies that are simply better than the others because they happened to be released last
3) We actually playtest stuff to see if you can break the game, not just if you can line up pretty models and have a game of "gentlemans war"
4) The game is very fast playing, meaning you can play three games by the time you finish one WHFB
5) The flow of the game means that you don't have to wait 20 minutes for your opponent to finish his turn moving 300 models around.
6) Every miniature is made of metal, and are being redone if they somehow don't meet the expect standards
7) No product is rushed out the door. If it leaves the confines of the hands of any of the staff, you can bet your a$$ that it's been properly tested, and thought through.
8) The use of d20 means that you get a bigger scope of probability compared to those wretched d6 that inevitably means that everything in a game is all vanilla and sort-of the same, with very little effort needed to be taken to break the game.
9) ACTION POINTS! We've got action points, and once you found out just how much freedom of play is related to this little mechanic, I fear you might do what I did: Sell all my GW stuff except for a few priced pieces, simply becasue a whole new world of gaming opened before my eyes.
