While the spider man movies have been some of the better ones released, I'll have to go with Freakbrain on this. Enough of ancient comic books already, let's see some new and original thinking, not cheap cash-ins! How about a Dark Age movie?

Hey, V for Vendetta wasn't your average comic book movie. :P I'm not a big fan of super heroes myself, but the Spiderman movies (and Hellboy) were good in my opinion. I can't stand super hero comics though, blech.

Nope, and if you haven't read it I suggest you do. It's different enough from the movie to be interesting to read through without becoming too predictable and boring. For example, in the comic Evie is actually starting off a career as a prostitute. Guess they didn't want to have natalie portman playing a prostitute?

Well actually, if there's any comic I'd like to see in film, it's the Sandman stuff by Neil Gaiman.

Besides, Spiderman has been good entertainment. Definitely not great movies....but worth their admittance fee.

If they could do it right that would be amazing. I love the Sandman. The main problem I would see would be that to get in half the details it would have to be about four days long. Maybe one of the short stories would work though.

I don't think sandman could make it to movie form undeminished unless Neil Gaiman himself had some direct involvement. He and another guy made a film called Mirrormask a while ago which was supposed to be a real hit but I never saw it. It was never really publicized a lot.

Mirrormask was quite good. It surprised me because I hadn't heard of it before seeing it on the shelf. When I saw Neil Gaiman's name on the cover, I had to watch it. Very interesting movie.

Mags and me went to see Mirrormask as soon as it came out in the cinema, but no, it wasn't publicised well at all, and had some bad reviews. We only knew about it because I stalk everything Neil Gaiman.

I thought it was really cool.

Stardust is being made into a movie, lots of celebs involved, so that should get some decent publicity.

He's always involved if it's anything to do with him. Ever hear of Neverwhere? Well that (awesome) book was made into a TV series ages ago (my first taste of Gaiman was seeing that), and he had a big hand in it. Same with Mirrormask. Same with Stardust.

I don't think you could do the whole of Sandman justice with one movie. You could maybe take one or two characters and do something with them, and leave The Endless as more mysterious figures.

I'd like to see The Dream Hunters made into a movie. That was my favourite Gaiman comic. Or maybe Death: The High Cost of Living. I'd also love to see him do more with the werewolf character in Smoke and Mirrors - he rocks.

loved V for Vendetta on the big screen. I find the irony delcious that they equate the role of a "reporter" with that of a "prostitute." Hellboy was big-stupid- fun so you hafta love it.

Though I'm curious to see how well Neil Gaiman's stuff translates too film. Just please don't translate it to film hear me Hollywood. They will either do really well or really bad and I don't wish to see the sandman done really badly.

Overall though I like the way certain comics turn movies are being treated like serious film, V for Vendetta, Sin City and Batman Begins.

But as a genre I think Hollywood retreats to comics when they've run low on ideas. Fantastic Four, Punisher, The 90's Batman Movies, Spiderman and the post X-Men. I'd like to see see them get away from comics movies per se and have them actually develop some real creativity with maybe a few comic book elements.

btw how was the Neverwhere series? I heard that the low budget kinda killed it?

Cheers,

Sin City was very cool. Still haven't seen V for Vendetta, though I didn't hear good things about it. There again I didn't hear anything good about Blade Trinity and I thought it was the best of the three.

It had a low budget? I never even noticed, but then London does actually look pretty crapy outside the touristy bits. I thought it was the best TV series I'd seen in a long time.

Speaking of comic book heroes and Neil Gaiman, anyone ever read 1602? Now there's a brilliant comic.

Thanks for not killing the surprise. :D

One technique that I thought was clever was during the opening of Ultraviolaet (yes eye candy and fight scenes galore) was that they created comic covers featuring the heroine and using the Movie Studio logo as the comic company.

Any way I thought it was cute.

Speaking of Neil Gaiman movie wish lists I'd love to see what they could do with Good Omens, Smoke & Mirrors or American Gods. (hint, hint, hollywood).

Though I loved the imagery of Mirrormask the only real flaw with the movie was that I didn't get a chance to catch on the big screen. I mean it showed for a week a one theatre and then disappeared.

Any way I think that wasn't cute.

Cheers,

Osiris

Hasn't Good Omens been optioned for a movie? I think its been kicking around in the very early pre-production stages for years now.

It has and Neverwhere was meant to be a full length hollywood motion picture but it fell through three different directors. But then again so where Batman Beyond, The Goliath Chronicles, and Sailor Moon (all meant to be full length featured movies) But then again who's keeping count?

Kinda interested to see what Transformers (starring the Rock) will be like. I'm guessing either really good or really bad but doubt there will be much in between.

Whoah! Never heard about the part with the Rock. Looks like Optimus Prime's gonna be laying the smack down on some decepticons. :P

Say...if you like Gaiman...are you also familiar with J Michael Straczinsky's "The Book Of Lost Souls". I think its an excellent comic book.

I'm ashamed to say that I haven't. Since my curiosity is piqued I'll have to look it up. I've been reading through a couple of books one of which is Writing for Comics by Peter David. He even references Gaiman several times throughout the book in some very insteresting contrasts against mainstream comics. It's sheer genius for comics, novel and screen writing.

but thats my biased opinon

somehow i think an attempt at good omens or american gods as amovie done by anyone but neil gaimen would be ruined. and even if he did personally make them both movies, there's something that's in the way it reads that the movies could not contain......kinda like british humor ;)

edit: and i like spiderman, mainly because of that late 80's early 90's cartoon series he had, i grew up on it. i'll go to see this third one, and like i think profane said, even if they're not good for story, they're sure as hell good for a movie.

I'm going to see Venom and the Sandman (spiderman variety) not too interested in the acting. IT's the predator theory of movies, if you can't dazzel them with the story use those awesom specail effects.

Cheers,

V of Vendetta is a great fun movie... remember, remember the 5th of November...

I go to the movies and watch every single comic related movie... only missing Superman.
