Looking for a good starting point total to start learning the game, any suggestions? What is the standard point total for a Demo?
Willing to take any suggestions on how to start out playing so I can convert some locals to the Dark Age!

300 points is the standard demo. The "Skarrd Father Warband" is a good starting point for Skarrd. For the Forsaken you can pick up one of the "Saint" warbands and then add a box of Banes. Brood and Dragyri you have to get a la carte.
This is a recurring topic, so a search of the forums will yield a plethora of information. Moreover, I am sure that if you ask about a specific force that you will plently of helpful suggestions.
Good luck!

a good starting point value is 300-350 points. for skarrd and forsaken, you got boxes you can buy to pick up majority of that. for brood and dragyri, you can get that point value pretty easy
goodluck and happy gaming!

We've come up with a few indicative starter type forces, why not tell us which factions you're most interested at the moment? I say "at the moment" because eventually you'll want them all.

profane's right, no amount of self control will prevent you from owning all 4 factions, or aspiring too
there were days i told myself i would only play dragyri. a skarrd and forsaken army later, im definatly proving myself wrong! :D
youll never regret it though, i still havnt spent what ive spent on my tau army : /

Oh, I dunno....... I'm doing pretty well at resisting those pansy-goody-goody Forsaken....... only have a few of their minis.
*sigh* Suppose I'll have to get an army of them when Art-de-Vivre leaves the area though.............. :?

oh I did alot of damage to the DA booth at Gen Con.....200$ after 25% all on Dragyri. I have a solid start to Dragyri and then Grafter gave me a Skarrd Sabre due to the fact that I fell in love with the model. I fully intend to build a Skarrd Army but need to work on my Dragyri first. I normally only play models that I like regardless of how good they are.
I have so many models from Gen Con assemble and then paint but I find myself wanting some more skarrd! so If you all want to help build my Skarrd force please do! As long as I like the sculpt, I will probably buy it!

A good start would be:
1 Death's Device
2 Soul Searchers or 2 Wails
add slaves to make up 300-350 pv

Well, you're on a good path for your Skarrd starter then.
Saber 76PV - the smoke bomb will aid your advance.
Hoodoo 60PV - cool model, cool abilities.
8 Buzzblades 200PV - Skarrd staple.
336 PV Total.

LOL yeah......... :D
Gotta build up my Skarrd first, then when Evolution comes out there will be plenty of new Brood stuff to add to my current force........ so even if I do start Forsaken, it won't be for a while. 8)

im working on skarrd forsaken and dragyri all at the same time, while it may be slow, i like doing it, and it makes the already interesting task of painting dark age all the more interesting
after im done with those 3, and evolution comes out, im hitting the brood

I was doing that, but then I decided to just break ranks, charge and finish my Skarrd, then my Brood. Now I

So I guess you don't want to hear what's in the Dragyri queue right now then, eh?

Well for demos, I have to say that the Hottie and myself are feeling pretty comfortable at the 500 AP mark...and we have only played 2 games each.
That being said, we have extensive gaming experience so learning new stuff is not a major issue for us...however keeping the rules straight is
And to be 100% blunt, I will sooner or later own all the factions...the minis are awesome and every time I look at the art in the books, I see Dark Sun (WHICH I LOVE) so what can I say? I can only hope to slow the addiction to the point where I do not start trying to sell my other figures online.

300 points is a good starting point. I was actually running demos at 250 points for a while becasue some of my demo minis walked off, and even that is a fun game, if quick. You just need to realize that saint Mark is overpowered in a 250 point game. Small games like that are great fro learning the rules, and then afterwards you can write some cool infiltration scenarios inside buildings and stuff. Small games rock! The target size of games for the rules is about 500-750 points, which can be happily upped to about 1000 before things start getting difficult. But it's only in the big games that the synergy between some of the Dragyri units or Brood forces become apparent, so its a mixed bag either way.
I prefer to demo and/or learn/teach at the 250/300 point level, and have full games at the 750 point level.

Well, you better look into their background a little before you decide based on "goody-goody". Just like normal humans, they all have their own skeletons in the closet.
