View Full Version : Call To Arms Desert Rumble Tournament Series!!!!!

Following the success at major conventions these past two years, we would like to maintain the momentum by launching the Call To Arms Desert Rumble Tournament Series. We don't exactly have a big budget on marketing, but we would like to spend it on our existing fans. I know a lot of you are already busy painting up your new armies and pondering the possibility of becoming a demo outcast for Dark Age, wait no more!!!

It is possible for Individuals and stores to run their very own Rumble, here's what we ask:

1) You do not have to be a current Outcast member to do this, all you need to do is to have some minis, some decent terrain and a basic knowledge of the game. And the will to make Dark Age a staple game in your local area.

2) You must have a minimum of 8 players to be eligible for the prize support, which will be provided to you FREE OF CHARGE! The tournament organizer can participate if you are short players. We trust that you will be fair.

3) Let us know ahead of time so that we can put the time and location on the news page, you can post that on the forum yourself.

4) At the conclusion of the tournament, you must provide names, email addresses of participants, identify the winner and take at least one picture of all the players. A tournament report or pictorial would be super!

5) Format: Single elimination, double elimination, swiss are all acceptable. But even with single elimination, try to pair up the ones that did not win to make sure they get to play just as many games as the winners do. Afterall, the rumble is a gathering for people to make an excuse to play Dark Age.

6) 300-350 point armies (350 works best) Armies must be painted, although not to a high quality. No single unit from any army must not be higher than one third the total cost of the army, i.e. in a 300pt army no model may be over 100 pts.

7) Prize support: The Tournament Organizer must contact us with all pertinent information of the Rumble winner. Normally if given advance notice we will let the Organizer know what the prize support consists of so they may announce this ahead of time.

8) You may request for a rumble once a month at each unique location. ie. if there is a chain of 4 stores, they may have 1 in each location each week. By the same token, you may run different rumbles at different locations.

If you are interested or if you have more questions, please PM or contact DA-bj at [email protected]

Are you ready for something dangerous? I know I am :)

Sweet! I'll see if I can convert any folks in the gaming club I'm starting and hold one of these. On that note though, is this intended for entrants who already have armies or can they be provided by the tournament organizer? Also, is it possible to have more than 8 players? Just figured I'd ask for clarity.

I don't know if many of you have enough minis yourself to provide for everyone, so it might seem a little much to ask. IMO, you can provide some and people can bring their own, and if you have more than 8, all the power to you, just make sure you keep good paper work to make sure you have a clear winner at the end of the tournament.

Also you don't have to run single elim, you can run double elim, swiss, whatever way you like. At Indy, we ran single elim, but the rest of the players that lost still continued to play all 3 rounds.

Grafter,

If you want to set up a demo like this with Kurt at the Warroom, I would be willing to help run it. I figure you have minis that could be used and we could see if Kurt has folks that would be interested. Would not hurt to see if we could give the game a kick in the butt here at home.

Just an idea.

Personally I think that maybe prizes should be given to first, second, third just so people see a reason to keep playing after they've lost a round. Perhaps do a "store credit" to be used exclusively on DA product. I'm not sure if you allow retailers to order small amount from you in case they don't already carry Dark Age though. This way the winners would support the store if they decide to buy more at the same time. I would suggest finding out the average cost of a 350 point army and lessening the average cost for the 1st place, then decided accordingly for 2nd and 3rd.

Well this certainly is GREAT news! I have already informed my gaming community and between Punky and myself we can easily support 8-10 players worth of minis for this event. Im going to have one set up for the month of Sept. WOOHOOO!

Could work if Grafter could handle the paperwork involved (I am expecting it to be a freaking blizzard due to demand). I am not too sure how store owners will feel about directing players to the companies online store to use credit. This may make some folks uncomfortable and is something I personally think needs to be avoided.

Just my two cents.

Go Larry's secret lair... :)

To answer monkeyman's question. I know that there is a diffeence between the cost of a 300 point Forsaken army and a 300 point Dragyri army, but we are flexible and you can divide the prize support anyway you choose. You can choose to get the prize support before hand and pick a variety of stuff and give out to top 2, 3, 5 whatever you choose on the day of the tournament , instead of having the winner contact us for the loot, it is all up to you.

As to your question on retailers. We are now geared to service small stores. They will have a great discount, no minimum order and free shipping in the U.S. so it will be in their best interest to order some DA before the event.

I agree. Maybe my wording was off, but that's what I was suggesting. Having store credit for the store they're playing at and if that store doesn't carry Dark Age they could do an order if ordering direct allows them to order specific amounts rather than a box of blisters for each unit etc. I only suggest this if it wouldn't be a huge headache to implement, in which case the 350 point army being delivered through the Outcast/organizer would work as well.

Since I'm moving the Chicago area will be lacking anyone to demo or run tournies locally, so you're more than welcome to take charge of things for around here as well. Hopefully you'll be able to get someone from around here interested to take some of the load off you.

If you're going to do this, I'd like to attend. I've been talking to Racel to get a demo anyway, and I'll ask some of the guys at Hobbytown Kennesaw if they can make it across town. I'm in Roswell, so Warroom is easy for me to get to.

Sounds great to me. I am very close to HobbyTown, but not sure if they would be open to the Demo concept. Game department management tends to change yearly, but the owner is the same and he is not keen on games he does not sell (actually, he is not keen on games at all . . . . . ). We actually played DA there a few time many years back. Also played Vor a few times in the old days. Seems like so so long ago now . . . . . . .

Let me know when Grafter.

Yes! All your game store are are belong to Dark Age! From what I understand Brookhurst Hobbies is the major games store down here, if I can get them to carry DA then everything will be set!

Just a suggestion, but I think you may want to limit this promotion to terrestrial Earth unless the beings holding the tournament on the other planet (definition of planet pending . . . see news to see if a decision has been made yet) are willing to pickup the prize package themselves or provide a means of transport to get the package to themselves. Last time I checked, NASA

Since there have to be a minimum of 8 participants, you may find another player able to beat him???? Or, you could always force Jordan to play blindfolded............. or with a army point penalty for each tournament won?

Actually, Jordan and MrSota owned the Warmachiners for a while here. They're both pretty good players. Maybe MrSota will be exempt so us mere mortals will have a chance. ;) Otherwise, I'm up for trying blindfolding...

All About Games here in Boise is sponsering our event.

Where - AAG
When - 9/Sept/06 12:00 - 4:00pm

With the success of Dark Age at Gen Con we are bringing it to Boise. This is your chance to check out this great game and get some free Minis at the same time.

AAG is offering a special deal in honor of this. 20% off any Dark Age products purchased on the day of the event. They are also offering the 20% deal for anyone that wants to purchase an army prior to the event.

What if you want to participate but don't have figures? Don't worry there will be armies available for use in the tournament. All released factions will be available.

Come down and play the alien Dragryi, St Mark's or St Mary's Forsaken, and even the deadly Skaard.

I'm just wondering what ever happened with all this. Right now I've got minis for half a dozen DA armies... St. Mark, St. Mary, Ice Caste Dragyri, Air Caste Dragyri, Skarrd, and Brood...either on hand or on their way out to me. I just really wish I wasn't such a craptastic painter (know anyone who'll work on trade LOL) because almost all my minis are bare metal.

I have posted the event on our local gameclubs yahoo group and know I got 4 already confirmed. I will be setting a date once I get a better idea what day is best for all. I just ordered some more Forsaken so between the Dragyri and Brood force I got should be able to handle all comers. I know a few of the guys bought stuff so have encouraged them to bring 'em along. Once, I have a firm date I will contact you but am really excited. I know when people see the mini's and the game play more will join the community. I'm in CT. for anyone interested.

I've found out from experience it's better to have people apply to be an Outcast

http://www.dark-age.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2557

While we run Rumbles at conventions it has shown that the Prize for the event often blinds the players to the true reason of playing in a Rumble, being introduced to a really cool game. Not too many stores, individuals, or Outcasts can support a 8-16 person tournament. Whenever DA goes to a convention we will be there running these events, but with the numerous Rumbles we have run we found out that the prize support had to change. In recent events we have been offering Gift Certificates to the winners of the Rumbles to be utilized at our booth, we will continue to do so for future conventions next year. If a store can muster up at least eight playable 350 pt armies (and players), painted and within the guidelines of proper demonstration guidelines then we will provide them with prize support. That is our promise to them.
