Porter is a style of beer in the ale family which has a dark colour. It was developed in the 18th century, originally from the use of highly dried brown malt, a roast malt aroma and hop bitterness. It is generally brewed with soft rather than hard water.

In 1802, a writer named John Feltham wrote a version of the history of porter that has been repeated hundreds of times since. Unfortunately, very little of Feltham's story is backed up by contemporary evidence. His account is based upon a letter written by Obadiah Poundage (who had worked for decades in the London brewing trade) in the 1760

Well, if punky is planning on wearing his dress for this visit, I can understand having to consume the copious amounts of alcoholic beverage.

Porters are an important part of American brewing history also - the Porter was a personal favorite of George Washington, who advocated a National Porter as part of his encouragements to buy only domestically-brewed beer.

James Madison also seriously considered a National Brewery, and he and Jefferson correspondly frequently about brewing. Thomas Jefferson brewed 15 gallons of beer every two weeks for personal use.

Case in point - Beer is patriotic, and I thoroughly enjoy expressing my love of country through this particular means. After all, Benjamin Franklin said "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to prosper."

As tempting as it sounds I'll stick to my Guinness Lager or My Alexander Keith's Indian Pale Ale. Add Stewart's Root Beer to my list - i'm still waiting for the day when I can buy stock in that company.

Cheers,

Osiris

The Ram beer was great! How cool is it to have a beer made for a minis game, in this case Warmachine.

Yuengling Lager amazes me as it is not microbrewed, American and drinkable.

They don't really brew up something new for Gencon, it's just a rename.

Ha! Yes I remember reading that. Sam Adams inherited his father's brewery and then ran it into the ground. In fact, he was a failure at most every venture he tried...except for his remarkable role in revving the populace for secession from England. But even his contemporaries considered him a boorish rabblerowser. Perhaps he was the "Rush Limbaugh" of his day.

I still like the beer of his namesake, though....and pretend the formula and visage on the bottle actually have something to do with the historic revolutionary

Woot woot on both accounts!

Sam Adams line of beer is some of the best REAL American beer around!

The Ram on the other hand makes something of a treat for beer drinkers. What they have is something special and good that you cannot buy at a store. MMMMM Im sooo longing for some good Ram brew.

True for their regular beer lines, however they do actually do a special brew for Gen Con. The Bloody Buccaneer and last years most excelent (and IMHO better but only slimly) Kiltlifter were specially made for GC. But yes the rest of the brews, their regular line were renamed for the con.

Hmmm if we can pick Dark Age up a bit more, maybe we can curry favor with "Indy" Dave (the guy in charge of the Indy Ram) to brew up a Dark Age themed beer to go with the Warmachine brew.

Hmmm perhaps Skaard Gruesom Stout, or Forsaken Ale or something along those lines.

Bloody Buccaneer is the freakin' Big Red Ale they always have - they may say it's different but it ain't. I'm not sure about the Kiltlifter, whether that's the Blonde or the Homestead, but any differences are twiddling at most.

Ok. Maybe Im wrong about it. I admit it. However everything I read was that it was a special brew. Then again it's possible they could have just made hype for something they already had.

Kiltlifter on the other hand was (supposedly) a specially brewed Scotch Ale for GC '05 and one of the best damn beers I've ever drank. :)

I wholeheartily agreed about the Kiltlifter being absolutely awesome. I drank two growlers up in my room Thursday Night 05 and took myself out of WM Nationals.

Bloody Buccaneer, on the other hand, was ass-nasty and I suspect it contributed to the ass-disease which had me tied to the toilet all of GC `06. (Who else has thrown up and crapped water at the same time?)

It certainly does. It was much fun walking into the Budweiser Restaurant at Indy Airport and ordering a Sam Adams :P

The Ram on the other hand makes something of a treat for beer drinkers.

Every time I drank at The Ram (which was often) I had the Buccaneer Brew, I even picked up the t-shirt being the Warmachine fan that I am ;)

Oh yeah, and The Ram playing geek movies on their projecter was one of the KEWLEST THINGS EVER! LotR, Big Trouble In Little China, Serenity .. good times.
