Pointed out GW is shutting down (http://us.games-workshop.com/community/forums/warforum.htm) their forums on Nov 15th!
Strange!

GW has forums? The last I looked it was something resembling the stone age of message boards.

Sadly not far off the truth. The first thing the Specialist Games forums did was say that you cant talk or debate about the offical forums shutting down.

That's too bad as much as I hate to say it the Specialist Games is where I felt GW really shone. I'm sad to see them go but then again they've been trying kill the Specialist Game line for years - maybe they've finally got what they wanted.
Cheers.

The Specialist Games forums will be staying up for the forseeable future, only the main GW boards are shutting down

The Specialist Games forums are staying up. But as they expect an influx of ex-GW forum-ers they immediately laid a silence policy down. Kind of like New Labour with the rough edges knocked off.

there was plenty of back and forth on the message boards . lot's of anti-fanboy interaction as well as bootlickers or was that windowlickers that was mentioned before.
just like any forum, it served a purpose. I am sure if this forum went away there would be some that would be happy and many more that would be sad.
it's just part of life. some things you like are there for a long time and others are gone in a week. i just enjoy it while it's there and don't dwell on it too long when it's gone.
I will miss much of my interaction with certain people on the message boards. even the arguments.

AFAIK GW closed down their boards since there are so many other boards out there, that are all functioning well, hence there was on need from GW's behalf to spend time and money mainting those ancient forums.
The specialist forum was told not to discuss the closing of the official boards since it would be flooded with topics about it, topics that would all be irrelevant, and take up a lot of server space for the specialist boards.
In the end, it all seems to make a lot of sense.

yeah ironic how a dedicated 40k site with its name deriving from 40k has the biggest bunch of anti-gw whiners on the planet :)

Nah, I'm joking. I'm usually a GW defender against serial bashers.

It's a mixed emotion about GW, I really appreciated the fun I've had over the years with their games. I thinkk what happened is that marketing became more important then value (quantity vs quality) always put the customer first and you will remain small and healthy

I still enjoy playing GW games, it's just that I prefer Dawn of War to standing at a table with 12 year olds. Likewise, I'd much rather play Warhammer Online once it comes out.
I won't bash GW here, if I want to do that I can go into the local store carrying my copy of Genesis or Prime ;)

one of the sad things to gaming is dealing with the little guys.. sometimes it's ok when you are teaching them, but man, they win a game and it's lights off.
our local club ( Big Gunz) and the younger members (Young Gunz) has a mentor program, but the little guys know better than to act up.. it gets them in trouble real quick
