IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies grow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

yes, i also have no idea what that is.......except for some semblance of a memory of some battle in WWI that was little know by the name the battle of flanders.

edit: oh yes, one more thing i'm a busy person, and i've always been here......not in spirit, i mean on the comp. but no time to stop and chat. Why do I have time now? Because I decided i'm tired of psychology work.

The poem is part of Remembrance Day solemnities in Allied countries which contributed troops to WWI, particularly in countries of the British Empire which did so.

(I learned something new today. )

To be honest I think The USA puts all the effort into Veteran's day, not specifically any one battle field or any one group of soldiers, but for all veterans of any affair and for those that have fallen in defense or offense during those affairs.

November the 11th is the equivalent to that over here then. Remembrance Day is about all soldiers who

Ditto, Pyrrhus. I had always assumed this was yet another of those holidays we inherited from our Southern neighbours. Teach me to make assumptions, eh?
