I take it that the depressions will be filled with resin?

Yes they will... the board will be overgrown and feature pools of gunk.

It definitely looks like more than the first batch of pictures - you can see it shaping up quite nicely. It'll be interesting to see how it goes from a grey/brown rectangle to a miniature swamp. ;)

Are those chunks of natural cork that I see? I've known model railroaders to use that, but it always seemed too expensive to put on a gaming board.

Nice one, this is looking really good already. The cabin half sunk in the pool is a great idea, adds real depth to it. And I have just the project in mind to steal that for! Cheers!
Looking forward to seeing this finished.

They are chunks of tree bark that I have had for about 5 years, I picked them up whilst walking the dog!! Finally i've found something to do with them! They will be sprayed up and painted as rocks.

... its that time again...
Not only have we been busy on Firezone, but we have turned out another board. Primarily made with Dark Age (www.dark-age.com) in mind, this board will be used for most science fiction games.

If you browse around a bit in the Terrain section you can also find some WIP shots...

nice look.. is that glue in the pits now? and are you going to prepaint the pits before you add the resin or is the resin going to be precolored?

The stuff in the pits is Games Workshop water effects... which has the look of another substance... when dry it will be clear and the surface will be "gunked" up.

Very nice board, but the soil scientist in the back of my head is raising a ruckus, so I thought I'd share...
While the "not on Earth" explanation can be used, fertile land with groundwater that shallow tends to develop very dark soil, between everything being *wet* all the time and the resulting levels of decaying plant matter. If you've never bought mulch, or done home composting, "dark" means "brown so dark it's almost black." Tea leaves and coffee grounds are in the right range, too.
Now, if the puds and broodlings are eating everything in sight, the Blackmire might actually be the cleanest swamp on the planet, but it's still called the Blackmire.
That said, the "leached" look around the sinkholes is a nice touch. It suggests that you don't want to be swimming in or drinking from those pools, *whatever* the color of the water...
