OK! Since there are no DA players were I live, I found myself in need of corrupting others before I can truly start building my collection. So here's the plan:
1st wave:
Buy 2 Demo Armies
(Use this armies in conjunction with the quick start rules and hold demo skirmishes in order to attract others in joining in)
2nd wave:
Buy all DA books
(Read in detail about each faction and the background of Samaria, start writing fluff and eventually settle for a faction I want to collect)
3rd wave:
Start collecting more and more DA stuff. :D
Now back to the Demo Armies. I thought of a 'classic' skirmish between Toxic Cult and St. Mary. Here is my list:
Forsaken Saint Mary
Forsaken Contradiction
2 x Forsaken Clergy Ann (2)
vs
Skarrd Toxic Host Warpack
Keep also in mind that I'm on a tight budget here. Around 80$-90$.
Here's what you are looking at:
st Mary 130
Contradiction 70
Clergy Annx2 120
Toxic Cult Warband
Curwen - 135
Chitin - 77
Hoodoo- 60
Kaustic- 46
Bone Doc - 50
Toxic Mistressx2 - 108
The Mary army comes in at 320 and you have some juggling available with the Toxic Cult, so for demo armies those aren't too terribly bad choices. You are fielding heavy hitters so expect some battles to go quick. A good rule of thumb is to have a set demo army size and try not to have any one model more than 1/3 the cost of the demo army. Honestly for your first purchase I would buy Essence and a few units that are included in the book with complete rules to play them, included in Essence are the rules for:
Forsaken - Warwind, Bane, & Coil
Typical demo army for the forsaken would be: Warwind (1), Bane(2), Coil(2)
Ice Caste - Death's Device, Soul Searcher, Spear Slaves
Typical demo army for the Ice Caste would be: Deaths Device(1), Soul Searcher(2) Spear Slaves(10) - *two units of five*
Skarrd - Grafter, Buzzblades, Bolas
Typical demo army for the Skarrd would be: Grafter(1), Buzzblades(6) Bolas(3)
Brood - Gazelle, Ratchet, Broodling
Typical demo army for the Brood would be: Gazelle(1), Ratchet(2), Broodlings(6)
Seeing that you are interested in purchasing St Mary and Skarrd eventually I'd go with Forsaken and Skarrd demo armies, after your intial investment of Essence and the two demo armies you can purchase Exodus and the appropriate minis.
Keep in mind all miniatures are now accompanied by a unit card, but the Special Abilities and Weapon Abilities rules' can only be found in the appropriate forcebook. This is another consideration to going generic first, then specializing afterwards.
I hope this helps and welcome!

if those numbers are unit size then you have a few units that are not minimum sized. (looking at spear slaves specifically)
What Gun is trying to say that to field three Dragryi Trueborn you need to have a 3:1 ratio, i.e. for every one trueborn you need three slaves, so you would need a minimum of 9 slaves.
I'm guessing he means he takes 2x of the Spear Slaves blisters, meaning 10-12 Spearslaves (depending on when he purchases his slaves).

I don`t know, what is the minimal unit size!
By the slaves i buy 2 blister and by the Banes Warband is it a troop box.

What I had in mind was: St. Mary + Contradiction + 2 x 2 Clergy Ann (a total of 4 of them) so it would be 440. Taking out kaustic from the toxic cult is 430, so I would have two equal armies, that fulfill the 1/3 quota rule of thumb. I would also use the quick start rules, Saint Mary Quick Start and Skarrd Quick Start documents in order get the Special Abilities and Weapon Abilities descriptions.

Good idea. I was thinking of Essence + Forsaken Demo Army + Brood Demo Army.

Not really, but I found them to be the most catchy combination for attracting new players (chicks and 'cool' looking bad dudes).
An other option I had in mind was to first purchase the three main books, read them, choose my army, and then buy a 400-500 army of my own and an other 400-500 army specialized on beating mine. This way I'm buying from the start the army I will like and also make the demo games more interesting by giving the noob a more fair chance with a better army then mine and giving me the chance to be in challenging situation even when fighting against noobs.
There is still time for me to figure out what I really wanna do, since my first order will be made earliest on Monday (or whenever I will receive my new card).
I hope this helps and welcome!
It did and thanks for the welcome, nice to be here! :D

These are the forces that BJ had when he demoed the game to me in Vegas last year.

Change of plans. I might not have the money to start on Dark Age this time or I might have double the funds I initially assumed I will have. I will know for sure probably on Monday.
Just in case I'll have the necessary funds I was thinking of acquiring two 500 pts armies themed based. One theme would be Bad Girl Art style (St. Mary of course) and the other should be disturbing (Grafter). Also I will acquire, at least, Essence and Exodus. Maybe I'll change Essence for Genesis and also add Evolution.
Saint Mary
X-Cess
Clergy Ann(2)
Firestorm(2)
Warwind (#2, of course)
vs.
Tribal Father
Grafter
Harpy Warpack (5)
Toxic Mistress (2)
So what do you think about these armies theme related point of view and in game statistics point of view (is one more advantage then the other, or harder to play and stuff).
