Regarding the initiative roll; is this performed any time both Forces have units with matching abilities, or only when those matching units are deployed in the same turn?

Gliding Deployment is easy, as you only can place Gliding Deployment models if you declare you want on the previous turn. So you'll know in advance if you have to roll.

My assumption is you have to roll Initiative for Assassination, you've dedicated to deploying that model (currently, only Sabre has that rule) this turn. In other words, if both players have a Sabre, and both declare they're using Assassination deployment during the same round, you roll for initiative. You can't roll for Initiative and then "opt out" of deployment.

By the way, this is far from officail; just a (hopefully) educated guess.

Assasination and GD are both declared in the Lingering Effects phase and if both players declare their intention to use said abilitties then they need to roll off. Anytime both players have special actions that occur in the LE phase the players need to roll off: Poison, Regen, Pud movement, Goes Out with a Bang, etc.
