Hello Good Samarians out there. We’ve been busy over here today. For starters, we have posted up new versions of the General FAQ as well as the Secondary Objective Cards on the website. So be sure to check those out. From there, we’ve also got two brand-new videos for you.

Paint Spl’Attr – Ajax Exo-frames
Though there’s an official paint scheme for Dark Age minis, that doesn’t mean everyone has to make their figures look the same. You should always look to paint your minis the way you want, adding your own personal touch and flair to them. In this Paint Spl’Attr article, Dave Taylor and Bobby Lomoggio take us through several paint schemes for the Ajax Exo-Frames, just released. Use their work as inspiration for your own paint schemes, and feel free to show off pictures of what you’ve done with your figures.

Community Feature – Rich Blondel’s Prevailers
We’ve been excited to bring you this article since the first time we saw Rich Blondel working on his Esh. Rich spent quite a bit of time this summer working on his Prevailer collection, and earlier this month sent us these photos and words to let us know how he goes about his Prevailer painting. We hope you enjoy this little holiday treat, and we’ll see you all again next year! Now, over to Rich:
“This time I will show you my favorite faction, the Forsaken Prevailers. From early in my childhood, I have been fascinated by the European Middle Ages, and also really attracted by the stories, books and movies about post apocalyptic universes, that’s why I fell in love when I discovered the Dark Age Prevailers range...

We’ve always been very impressed with the way that the team at Big Child Creatives have painted our wonderful Dark Age miniatures. With the recent release of the Dragyri book, along with the unveiling of the Shadow Caste, and numerous resculpts for the Air and Ice Caste, we’ve been lucky enough to snag quite a few painting tutorials from them. Here is the latest: crystals for the Ice Caste Dragyri.
Preparation
To craft these crystals you can just sharpen a resin sprue or something similar, carefully using a sharp hobby knife, as if you were carving a stake. Make a couple of them and proceed to place the crystals in the base.
To start, paint a base coat in a dark blue. One or two coats will be sufficient to obtain good coverage.
Painting the Crystals
Now we start adding some light to ...

After a recent chat with José Nuñez, the owner of Big Child Creatives (the wonderful team in Spain that sculpts and paints many of the Dark Age miniatures), he sent us through this great walkthrough of painting the Shadow Caste Dragyri armor. He also sent us details of the way the Big Child team painted the skin for the Shadow Caste. You can check that post out HERE.
In order to make the painting process simple and easy we won´t talk about specific colours of a pre-determined range. Instead of that, we’ll talk about hues (red, blue, yellow…) and tones. You won´t need to have the colors we actually used, but can substitute in those you have to match the ones we show in the mixing section of the photos.
Basecoating the armor and Preparing the Mixes
Now we start with the armor pl...

The recent release of the mysterious Shadow Caste pulled back the curtain on this not-at-all-pleasant sub-faction of the mighty Dragyri. Tucked in amongst the units are two that will be familiar to many Dark Age players. The Shadow Caste use corrupted C.O.R.E. robots (specifically the Pathfinder and Menials) as other castes use slaves. These robots have had their connection to the C.O.R.E. AI severed and replaced with the dully glowing xenosathic crystals to allow them to be controlled by the Shadow Caste psychogenic manipulators.
While we are waiting for the rest of the Shadow Caste range to be released, we thought we would show you a way to convert the existing C.O.R.E. models to join your new Shadow Caste warband...

DRAGYRI FIRE CASTE – PYRE – PAINTED BY DAVE TAYLOR
The Dragyri have been on Samaria longer than any other race, brought to its surface by the Altegrahns who were once their masters. Now, millennia later, the Dragyri are finally coming together to fight the common enemies that they find across the parched lands.
Dave painted up this Pyre model to add to his Fire Caste collection, and wanted to focus on pale skin and the sharp edges of the armor. We hope you like the results shown here.
Throughout this article we’ll refer to various paint colors from both the Vallejo and Army Painter ranges...

KUKULKANI – LIVING ANCESTOR – PAINTED BY DAVE TAYLOR
Although they were once instantly recognizable as humans, the Kukulkani have been evolved over the millennia of their service to Kukulkan. Even the lowliest of servants is technomantically augmented in some way, and death in the service of the great Coatl is not always as final as it might seem.
Dave recently painted up this Living Ancestor model, and wanted to focus on the apparently shifting nature of the substances many Kukulkani are imbued with. To that end, he wanted to see the gold of the model’s hands blend into the blue of his arms and so on...

Building the C.O.R.E. – The Zetamax
We’ve been asked a few times about assembling the recent Zetamax release for the C.O.R.E. so we figured now was the right time to give you a step-by-step through the process. We hope this helps all you budding robotics engineers.
Step One – make sure you have all of the parts shown above. Clip the necessary pieces off their sprues and do your quick clean up of mold lines etc.
Step Two – Start by gluing the ends of the legs into the pelvis. If you want to add them, some small pins might help strengthen the connection.
Step Three – Once all four legs were attached to the pelvis, we left them to dry thoroughly.
Step Four – The next step was to glue the “skirt” on to the rear of the torso. You can seen the shapes where the two pieces will connect.
Step Five – the shoulder plates/sockets...
