By the Numbers (Where does your faction rank in the following categories)

    By The Numbers
A Ranking of Dark Age Factions by Category

Below is a ranking of all the Dark Age factions listed from best to worst in a number of different categories. There were a number of discussions relating to how a faction differs from another as well as how the newly revised factions stack up to their unrevised counter-parts. So while this list isn't a definitive measure of a faction, nor is it a complete view since a number of other factors make factions unique in Dark Age, I find it a nevertheless interesting comparison.

    Note:
Keep in mind most of these stats take place outside of special faction rules or special abilities. The Brood do get Pud Control, Core get Combat Drones but other than these I tried to keep things that modify stats or model counts to a minimum. Also, these are weighted averages. I feel this works better in keeping track of factions who can field lots of small models, like Slaves, and get their cost per model or hp down or factions that can field many big, high HP models like the Brood. The disadvantage of this method lies with factions with fewer models like the Kukulkani and Core as their averages tend to swing a little more in some categories as a few models can weight down a category in a favorable or unfavorable way.

    Points Per HP
Note: This is one of my favorite categories when first comparing models. Although many will say it is not that important HP represents one of the core ways to mitigate the luck in the game by how long a model can hang around and take wounds. Being able to do so cheaply can be an important attribute for any faction.

Assumption: Less points per HP is better.
    Best. CORE (29.74, -7.05 Avg.)
    2nd. Dragyri [old] (32.1, -4.69 Avg.)
    3rd. Skarrd (33.97, -2.82 Avg.)
    4th. Brood (37.25, +0.47 Avg.)
    5th. Outcast (38.23, +1.44 Avg.)
    6th. Forsaken (38.95, +2.16 Avg.)
    7th. Dragyri [new] (40.15, +3.36 Avg.)
    Worst Kukulkani (42, +5.21 Avg.)

    Bounty Hunters: (38.71)

    Points Per Model
Assumption: Less points per model is better.
Best. Dragyri [old] (50.36, -12.83 Avg.)
    2nd. Core (54.85, -8.33 Avg.)
    3rd. Skarrd (57.94, -5.24 Avg.)
    4th. Outcast (59.16, -4.03 Avg.)
    5th. Kukulkani (60.79, -2.39 Avg.)
    6th. Brood (60.8, -2.38 Avg.)
    7th. Forsaken (68.82, +5.64 Avg.)
Worst Dragyri [new] (70.2, +7.02 Avg.)

    Bounty Hunters: (85.71)

    HP Per Model
    Assumption: More HP is better.
    Best. Core (1.84, +0.13)
    2nd. Forsaken (1.77, +0.05)
    3rd. Dragyri [new] (1.75, +0.03)
    4th. Skarrd (1.71, -0.01)
    5th. Brood (1.63, -0.09)
    6th. Dragyri [old] (1.57, -0.15)
    7th. Outcast (1.55, -0.17)
    Worst Kukulkani (1.45, -0.27)

    Bounty Hunters: (2.21)

    AP Per Model
    Assumption: More AP is better.
    Best. Skarrd (3.2, +0.2)
    2nd. Dragyri [new] (3.15, +0.15)
    3rd. Outcast (3.05, +0.05)
    3rd. Forsaken (3.05, +0.05)
    5th. Dragyri [old] (3.04, +0.04)
    6th. Kukulkani (3.03, +0.03)
    7th. Brood (2.83, -0.17)
    Worst Core (2.57, -0.43)

    Bounty Hunters: (3.07)

    Def Per Model
Note: It is important here to realize that the first big differences among sub-factions happens with the Defense and Armor stat. This can clearly be seen between the Air and Ice Castes of the Dragyri so an average here might not be as helpful an indicator. Still, it's an interesting category and always possible to do a breakdown further but sub-faction.

    Assumption: Lower defense is better.
    Best. Kukulkani (4.07, -0.41)
    2nd. Brood (4.41, -0.07)
    3rd. Outcast (4.47, -0.01)
    4th. Skarrd (4.69, +0.21)
    5th. Dragyri [old](4.72, +0.24)
    6th. Forsaken (4.73, +0.25)
    7th. Dragyri [new] (4.76, +0.28 )
    Worst Core (5.18, +0.71)

    Bounty Hunters: (3.29)

    Arm Per Model
    Assumption: More Armor is better.
    Best. Forsaken (15.2, +1.32)
    2nd. Core (14.7, +0.81)
    3rd. Kukulkani (14.05, +0.17)
    4th. Skarrd (14.03, +0.14)
    5th. Outcast (13.86, -0.02)
    6th. Dragyri [new] (13.4, -0,48 )
    7th. Brood (13.31, -0.58 )
    Worst Dragyri (12.7, -1.18 )

    Bounty Hunter: (13.71)

    Total Movement Per Model
    Assumption: More Movement is better.
    Best. Skarrd (10.01, +0.25)
    2nd. Dragyri [new] (9.96, +0.2)
    3rd. Dragyri [old] (9.94, +0.18 )
    4th. Brood (9.92, +0.15)
    5th. Outcast (9.7, -0.07)
    6th. Forsaken (9.59, -0.17)
    7th. Core (9.29, -0.47)
    Worst Kukulkani (8.96, -0.8 )

    Bounty Hunters: (10.5)

    Pysch Per Model
    Assumption: Higher Pych is better.
    Best. Kukulkani (13.66, +1.69)

    Worst Core (9.79, -2.18 )

    Bounty Hunters: (13.86)

    CHANGES

And here are the averages of the new, revised models versus the old, unchanged models:

    ------------ (pts/m) / (pts/hp) / (hp/m)/ (ap/m)/ (d/m) / (a/m) / (mv/m) / (ps/m)
    AVERAGES: (63.18 ) / (36.79) / (1.72) / (3.00) / (4.48 ) / (13.89)/ (9.76) / (11.97)
    Old Models: (56.95) / (35.01) / (1.64) / (2.93) / (4.61) / (13.76)/ (9.62) / (11.56)
    New Model: (70.97) / (39.01) / (1.82) / (3.08 ) / (4.31) / (14.05)/ (9.94) / (12.47)

Numbers are a funny thing. None of this terribly surprises me, though I think it might be more informative to report medians over means as that prevents models with outlier stats from skewing the smaller factions. Subfaction breakdowns might be interesting, as you note. Otherwise, fun stuff!

Well, it's good to see there's no one faction that absolutely dominates in every category (and conversely, no faction that absolutely sucks at everything).
