    New here-a few ?'s

Hi all! I've been checking out dark age and so far I like what I see.On average the mini's look great, the setting sounds awsome. And well I'm a fan of Broms artwork so thats a big plus!K time for the questions:1.how complex is the rules system and how strait forward are they?I like games where the rule are easy enough to pick up after a few games,as for the 2nd part of thr question I've played enough games where the rules were eather worded badly or so vauge that people would end up with there own views as to what it's supposed to mean. That in turn would lead to arguments and well to me that not much fun .:2.From what I've found it looks like an avgerage game it somewhere around 500 to 750 pts., roughly how much $ would it cost to build an army of that size? :3. Is there any concept art for upcomeing mini's, I can't seem to find any?Well thats all I can think of right now so.....thankx in advance!

Welcome. As usual these are just my opinions as a fan and nothing official.
Question 1: I picked them up quite quickly and I'm not terribly good at learning rules etc. A friend of mine had pretty much the whole system, even some quite obscure stuff, worked out after the first turn or so but I don't think that's normal (no offence to him mind). You should know how it all plays after your first couple of games anyway. It is supposed to be the case that the system allows you to learn it fast, but then keep finding new things so you don't get bored even if you play a lot. Sadly I haven't had the chance to play that many games so I can't confirm the second part.

And a warm welcome to you.

On account of the rules, I can only say that the rules themselves are around 28 pages, and a very easy to understand. The quickstart list you can download from the mainpage gives away a large portion of the actual rules themselves.
Every army then expands slightly on the rules, but its really just nuances that change. So far I haven't come across any two armies with special rules that coincide with eachother, without the proper solution already mentioned in their rules.

It takes two or three games, and you got most of it nailed down.
There aren't a lot of exceptions to the rules, where some game systems can go on and on without end, DarkAge features a very straightforward way of deteriming things.

I'll recommend making some cards for your minies, so you can keep track of their stats while playing(not that there are a lot, in fact I think I can mention any stat for any model in my army), and to make it easier to remember which units has moved and so on. I usually just flip the cards over, and write the defense and armour value of the unit on the backside so I dont have to flip it back if they got shot. I don't like counters a lot, but some people just place a counter when done moving a unit.

The game plays with alternate activation, so if your used to the GW's way of "I go, You go" then you'll find out that you have to think in quite a new way, as your opponent will react to your actions faster than usual.

For me, the rules seem very fluid and organic so a lot of things make perfect sense once you get in a game situation, where you COULD be in doubt.

There is a Genesis eratta in the Rules and rulings section of the forum, you should check it out if in doubt. The resident rulesmeister DA_Mr Sota is good at keeping it up to date. Usually it will answer a lot of your questions.

    On the matter of cost...

    1. I investigated many games as I had never played one until I was awakened at GenCon 2004. I think DA has the simplest, and slickest rule set out. It doesn't have the detailed complexity of some games, so if you are looking for that, this game isn't it. Oh man, I'll get beat up for this, but I compare this game's ruleset to say Basic D&D, Confrontation to AD&D, and GW to Role-Master (if your an RPG nerd like myself). All fun games, but some of them a little more deep than others. Also the ease of these rules helps limit arguments, as there is very little not covered or left in a grey (read interpretable) zone.

2:Can't help you here, I bought bucksfull early on.

3: If you check the Gallery on the homepage you can see the pics of already painted models, and you can check here for some green pics as they are available: Here

In checking the above page, I noticed that most of the greens are now in metals, but a place to check.

DrRazr. Serves me right for not taking pages that we no longer use off the server

I can assure that once I return from GAMA, we will resume our regular release schedule, and start showing you up coming releases again.

Heh... I will voice my opinion here as well. I would compare Dark Age to Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu (Easy to learn, with some unique mechanics), Confrontation with Decipher's LotR RPG (there's a game underneath all the shiny pictures and cool layout, I'm sure of it!) and GW to Palladium's Rifts (Game balance? What game balance?)

Not saying you are wrong, just voicing a different opinion. Interesting concept of analogy, BTW.

Just trying to keep my comparisons available for a more general audience.

I dissagree with the Palladium reference (game balance=crap, rules=pretty simple) and we were discussing rulesets. But that is for another thread I suppose. The thread police will likely bust me for this.
