    Kublacon 2006 Mini-Painting Events

    The KublaAwards Mini-Painting Competition

Bring your best to compete with the best at the sixth annual KublaCon Mini-Painting Competition, May 26-28.(Memorial Day Weekend in San Francisco). Trophies will be awarded for the top three entries in each contest category. The best-painted entry in the contest will win fame, glory, and the coveted KublaSword!

    Submission Times:
Submit your fully painted miniatures from 3pm-9pm Friday, 9am-9pm Saturday, or 9am-10am Sunday at the Painting Events area in the Grand Foyer. Submissions will be accepted up until 10:00am Sunday morning. Entries must be submitted in person by the artist themselves. Entries must be the work of the painter submitting them, or else be disqualified. Winning entries from previous years or other competitions may not submitted.

    CATEGORIES:
(Contestants may only submit one entry per category per genre.)

Genres are: Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Historical

Each Genre is split into three categories:

1 - Single Miniature: This category covers all 28mm human-sized and smaller. Size restriction: 2"x2"x2". The majority of miniatures fit into this size range. The upper limit may reasonably include Space Marine Terminators, mounted cavalry and bikes, which may qualify if within size limits. Judges reserve the right to move entries intended for Single category to Large.

2 - Squad: This category is for groups of three to twelve miniatures grouped together as a cohesive unit. There is no need to follow any game system rules for squad sizes. Entries may be large or small for Squad Category. Squads should be presented on a display base or movement tray.

3 - Large: This category covers all miniatures larger than a normal 28mm human-sized model. (Larger than 2"x2"x2") This may include models such as dragons, vehicles, large monsters, Confrontation Wolfen, 54mm Inquisitor scale, dioramas, etc.
Maximum size for large models is 12"x12"x12". Dioramas will be placed into the large model category.

KublaKids - This is a seperate category for contestants 15 years of age and under. This category is not split. Any type of model may be entered in this category.

Trophies will be awarded for Gold, Silver, and Bronze...1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively, along with Honorable Mention. One entry will be singled out for Overall Best of Show. Overall winner shall receive the coveted KublaSword, and any prizes donated by Kublacon's sponsors.

    Judging Criteria:
Display bases are not considered for purposes of size restrictions, or for judging of the miniature itself. Conversions and base scenics may contribute overall to a miniatures ranking, but are not the primary consideration for judging. Judges will rank entries based upon painting technique, neatness, skill in execution, coherent color scheme, and overall appearance. The judging team consists of notable artists in the mini-painting community who are well-versed in the craft, and their decisions are final.

    Misc Rules:
The greatest care will be afforded to all entries, by staff who share a passion for the miniature-painting hobby. However, Kublacon staff, volunteers, and judges cannot be held responsible for damaged or lost miniatures. We will do our best to ensure the safety of all entries.

All entries must be reclaimed by noon on Monday. Entries must be reclaimed by the person submitting them. ID may be required.

All categories will be judged, regardless of the number of entries.

All entries will be photographed, and submission into the competition indicates permission for Kublacon to use such images for any purpose, including posting to the online photo gallery.

Award-winning models from previous convention painting competitions (KublaCon, Golden Demon, Origins, GenCon, and DunDraCon) will not be accepted.

Other painting events include an all-day Paint'n'Take table, to try your hand at painting a new mini from leading manufacturers and sponsors. All supplies provided for you. Or bring your own minis to paint.

Speed Painting Contests are held regularly for fun, fame and KublaBucks!

Painting and sculpting seminars are held all weekend. The impressive list of instructors include professional sculptor Matt Gubser, and famed mini-painting artists Laszlo Jakusovszky, Marike Reimer, and Finn Kisch.

We are also proud to anounce the first miniature of our mascot Kubla will be available at this years con. Sculpted by our very own Matt Gubser, this is a limited run, special edition mini.

For anyone following the Con, I'm gonna be entering a St. Mark mini and either a Dragyri Death's Device or a Skarrd Raze (If I have time for a second mini), so stay on the lookout.
