absolute proof that i have no talent
my first DA mini
There's nothing wrong with this, witchfire. If you haven't already sealed it you could gover the red areas with a brown wash, grey & silver areas with a black wash and you've got a beaut of a Raze.
For giggles, I'd go over those veins in his arms with a very dilute blue to make them pop a bit. Just be careful your brush isn't loaded when you do.
Another trick could be to paint some rust on the edges of the helmet and the rotating disc on the axe (now DONT overdo this, less is more)
One trick can be to paint a black area, then fill it with a reddish brown, or metallic colour mixed with some darkbrown.
Just leave a very thin edge of black around the rust area.
Now, I am a speedpainter above all, so trust when me when I say that any additions are time well spent.
There are a few things to take notice of:
2) Paint Opacity
(This is mostly taken from the brushthralls site.)
Now, the axe and helmet are very big and shiny, so if you want to make them look a little less new, and just a tad worn, just do the rust trick.
This might make the overall appearance better since the decoy part (the thing you notice about a model first) is the helmet on Raze, and improving slightly on it will help out on the overall look.
But don't put yourself down, I've seen a lot of models worse off than that.
i can't see the model brother.. but from what i see the others mentioning, it isn't talent that you lack, just some good old fashioned technique practice will do you tons of good.
The figure looks good. Bonus points for it being Skarrd. Yeah, you can play around with techniques but that kind of stuff is easy to pick up if you have the basic talent and you do.
it looks a lot better than most people starting out did trust me. lol don't let all the beautifully painted models on the board deter you from trying harder and posting your stuff up. I myself am worried how i would measure up to the better painters lol.
Hush about this lack of talent! That looks just fine to me. Raze was one of my first minis (first skarrd?). I was really proud of him when I first painted him, now I think I could do better with my eyes-shut (not a recommended painting technique).
Less is more Young Padawan.
for rust does basecoating red then drybrushing with steel , work ?
Rust, I have just discovered, should be a bit orange. A bright orange probably wouldn
