The Golden Toadstools (V3.0)
It was over 4 years ago now, that the idea of having a wide open monthly contest dawned on me. It was to be a contest where the competition level was high, yet painters of any skill level could be comfortable entering. It wasn't about big prizes, trophies or swords. It was about sharing some great work, and sharing how you achieved it. For over 4 years now, this has gone on, with some great response and some slower times as well. We flirted briefly with some great prizes, but eventually, it was decided that prizes really don't matter.
Recently, in an effort to drum up some new support for this classic monthly event, I have made a few minor changes, including a new "Fungal Forum" at CMoN where discussion of the entries can take place, and more importantly, where the largest community of painters in the world can help pick the Fungal Growth winner each month. CMoN has the largest gallery of people's works, so it really makes sense to have the voting for the Growth award there.
The goal of the Golden Toadstool contest has always been the same. Primarily, it is an educational contest, where each entry must have some form of technical write-up in order that others may learn from what you have created. Of course, as in all contests, there will be a winner, usually the best quality paint job or diorama etc. The secondary goal is the Fungal Growth award, which originally was being decided by a diverse panel of excellent painters, but now we will let the community decide who has improved the most, by having votes at the "Fungal Forum".
So apart from leaving the increasingly quiet confines of the Masterclass Yahoo group for the teeming environs of the CMoN forums, everything else remains the same except the improvement award (which had fallen by the wayside anyways).

At any rate, please take the time to peruse the rules etc. if you aren't familiar with them, and by all means, join the fun and enter today! It is quick and easy to register at the GT site, and most folks are already signed up at the CMoN forums!
