    A minis experience

I was at the game store last night getting my forsaken butt kicked by Kalius. I brought something up to the store clerk after an extensive discussion we had about Confrontation. I took a well sculpted Werner Klocke/Reaper mini off the rack and the latest Rackham mini. Laid them side by side. Both were the same size and quality. Difference $4 for the Reaper, $10 for the Rackham. I went on to tell him that " This was why we stopped playing Confrontation". End of Story

I noted the trend a long time ago, also I'm confident that their pricing is now based on the point cost more than the amouth of metal/ quality in them. Too bad is a good system.

I hope people don't take this as a bashing of other company product but as a "Please DA guys don't go the same route"

    Another Mini Experience

Please note that I checked the exchange rate this morning which is at 90%. Even with Shipping and handleing (which is a flat rate) the differences between the prices I've listed is not that great. For the last section I calculated hte very basics in terms of starting armies that you need to play for the game.

    Cheers,

    Osiris

GW Skull White Primer $15 plus Tax (CDN)
    vs
Sandable Primer from Canadian Tire $4.99. (CDN)

GW citadel miniature brushes $12 plus tax each (CDN)
    vs
Walmart Brand detail brushes $12.99 for 6 (CDN)

in that case. GW citadel brush 12 dollars
Windsor and Newton (cheapie brush) 15 dollars.. it goes up from there. As long as the brush is sable (yes kolinsky is best and kolisky tail is even better) it will do. mileage may vary

My sister, who is a talented artisist, used to tell me to go buy the expensive brushes saying it would help me out "greatly." Then she watched me paint. She's OK with me using the not so expensive brushes now. Especially since I'm rough on them.

you forgot to add costs of paints, i started off w/ GW the switch from GW paints to Vallejo is a slow transition... Vallejo has much better colors and lasts you a hella lot longer.

comparing armies is somewhat a nil point. As they are two different scales, mind you i'm not backing EE but they each have their uses. I have more fun w/ dark age/skirmish games for different reasons. Such as lack of time to play big games, lack of time in painting whole armies, mini/sculpt quality, etc. are all valid reasons.

I use both vallejo and Gw and honestly each line has it's merits.. where vallejo has not so good mettalics and Gw does, Vallejo has good coverage with yellow and red paints where GW does not. I find they work so well together that I have acomplete set of GW and complete gaming color set from Vallejo. If you know how to mix colors they both last the same. If you are a stab and paint, then GW paints won't last long. Since I take my paints out with a dropper from the Gw line, they both are reasonably long lasting..

Again, my experience here, your mileage may vary.

Ok now ship the reaper mini over seas and then the price is a little more in line. Now add in a plastic base that generally doesn't come with the reaper mini. Now add a card to play with. The price difference is for more than just the mini with the confontation fig. Ultimately the price is higher for a confrontation fig, but I still have never seen a reaper fig that looks as good as a Confrontation fig. Maybe I have different tastes. Reaper minis are only good for role playing and I don't role play.
Give a monkey a brain and it will try to rule the world.
