    New to the game-Picked Dragyri

I got hooked at Gen Con So. Cal- played in a tournament and won after playing Dragyri (beginners luck I believe); anyhow I really liked the game rules (compared to warmachine and hordes- don't get me wrong I love those games too) the Dark Age rules seemed easier to me. So now I have roped my husband into playing with me.

This is where I need the experts on this board help in creating a Dragyri army. So far I have the minimum :

    Deaths Divice
    2 Soul Searchers
    15 spearslaves

now where do I go from here?

My hubby is playing Brood and of course I want to have Dragyri win everytime (hehehe); so come on experts help me out. Look forward and appreciate any help you can lend.

Hang tight, Girly Girl...you will definitely get a lot of feedback on your questions. Some of them may even be on topic. Expect to get some response to the "roped my husband into playing with me." bit.

I just wanted to be the first to welcome you to the forum and glad to have you on the Dark Age Express!! I'm guessing you were the girl in the pink top.

Very many welcomes to the fold! I myself play Dragyri as well as my main force and you look to have a great start to get you playing.

    Slaves:
I do like your choice of spearslaves, but I would also get at least a smattering of the other two. Never underestimate slingers getting in range and pelting someone with 2 shots from each slinger since they have no rate of fire. I took out a group of Bolas this way the other night. And shardslaves make crystal minefields and can give you a small amount of board control in doing so.

    Trueborn:
From here, you can really just kind of go with what game you want to play. If you like Melee (and what Trueborn doesn't?) then I started with a Frostbite and a couple Blizzards. Frostbites are great in dealing Extra Damage, they can give you a punch when you really need it. You can go ranged as well. I sometimes use a Sould Warden with spells, coupled with either Soul Splitters or Shadow Walkers.

    Others:
Definatley try an Ice Elemental with a Soul Warden sometime. They can be absolutely brutal in what they can accomplish and the damage they can absorb.

Hope that helped, you definatley picked the right force so I see you have great taste. Proxy some stuff if you get a chance and that will give you better idea on what direction you want to go.

    Again, Welcome aboard!!

    Bkldymnd covered the basics.

If you are expending to 500 pts, I would serious think about the Warden. He gives you a lot of options. And, the only source of Templates in the Ice Caste.

His Spray will work wonders against the Brood. Blast is always a favorite. And, I think he is still the second best shooter class in the game (except Saints) with the Dart and/or Spike (TN and Range)

Not to mention the Foci make it easy to point fill if you come up a slave short and don't have another Blister painted.

    ---

Also, get a Taskmaster as soon as he comes out. Better yet, sucker him into letting you proxy him until then. He turns those slaves into machines.

With him, then add in the Slingslaves (10 is a nice round number)

    ---

Myself, I wouldn't get to Shardslaves until you get toward the 750-1000 points. Same with Luk'a;lsdkjfapoiusdfasd (whatever).

Id suggest picking up a frostbite they are cool in that you can take just one in a squad (so are easier to squeeze in) plus seeing as you may end up playing alot of brood the extra wounds they cause will be quite helpful

Id really suggest looking into a Spirit lord as well (out now or soon) he is quite possibly the most versatile trueborn in list he parries, he can cauterize (with foci), he can use Sprays/streams, he can shoot people, he can make cover, and he still hits like a ton of bricks
granted he will cost a bunch pointswise (depending on foci) but man he's a beast though Id prolly not take him in a below 500 game (maybe)

and actually at an effective 12 AS the warden is a better (not stronger) shot than any saint

Ill second the warden and ice elemental as well though they require a slightly different set of tactics than most dragyri lists

also Blizzards can ruin a Brood players day with the ability to make their attacks stronger and cauterize

    Thank you

I appreciate the responses and found all very useful! I will take the recommendations and proceed on. Yes DA Profane, I'm the girl in the pink I figured since my hubby (NSTR on the board) got me involved with warmachine and hordes, it was now my turn.

I have this odd excitement about the Dark Age Game....I can't wait to get my minis painted and buy more and play the game. I am reading the rule book (for the 2nd time) and trying to get to know all the cool things Dragyri can do.

I will come back to the message boards for some more insight!

    Thanks again

Shadow Walkers. They are my favorite unit, If you learn how to use it you will be very rewarded, They also Annoy the opponent a lot.

Most people pass this unit, my experiences with a 3 strong unit:

1800 point games, they killed a whole firestorm squad, a whole bane squad, all while also distracting ST mark and a warwind.

750 vs skarrd: killed a kaustic, a grafter , 3 buzzblades, 2 bolas, chitin, father, wounded an abomination.

I remember you well, you started it with this wearing pink thing, and by the 7th Rumble, I had 3 females in the Rumble all wearing pink. Don't get me wrong, but getting beat by a woman wearing pink while playing DA is like a guys worst nightmare LOL

Glad that you like the game. You seemed to be having fun, or else you wouldn't have come back for a second Rumble

Yeah, definately add slingers, they are better than most people think, with a RF of 2, you bound to hit sometime. Midwest players seem to like fielding Soul Splitters too. Range is what the Dragyris lack, and these 2 units fill them out well... if you scale to 500 or 750 pv, add a better leader like Spirit Lord or better yet an Arbiter and whirlwind through your opponent's units like tofu...
