    Ratchet mishap...

So this post was going to be about my first Dark Age mini painted in about a year which was one of my Brood Ratchets. I had him ready to Dullcote, and then pics would be taken, and then I would get to work on the next model.

So Dullcoting.. get into my hobby room. Look at the cans (because if anyone uses Testors spray cans, once you open the can the outer label falls off and they all look the same except for the top of the can, which I am usually too lazy to put back on). So I usually look at the nozzle to see what color I'm grabbing, clear is Dullcote, black is my Black for basecoating. I forgot I recently bought white. I also test spray in the air to get it going and make sure I have the right one. So I grab what looked clear, test sprayed, looked clear. Pointed it at the front of the model.... WHITE! Sinking feeling sets in, I calmly come out of the hobby room, set my Ratchet on the table, and walk away for a bit.

So today, I get to repaint the front side of my Ratchet and try to fix his base as best as I can... *sigh*

Oh man, that really sucks. Rest assured you're not alone. We've all had this very same accident.

Happened to me before too. In my case, grey primer on a unit of something, I think I conditioned myself to forget what minis they were it happens, and it is rather disappointing. I feel ya.

This has to be the biggest destroyer of paint jobs in the industry. Good luck with the repaint.

    ack!

That's the worst. I know it's no help, but we've ALL done it at one point or another. Really sorry man. Best of luck with the repaint, can't wait to see the pics of it when it's done.

Thanks for the sympathy everyone I was a wreck earlier today, in my 10 years of painting, I've had varnish "frost" on me and ruin a model a few times, but I've never been the cause of my models paint destruction, I've always managed to catch myself just in time or similar.

So he's taking a green bath and we'll work on him again. I did get some more Brood finished today, I'll try to get them up

I have sympathy, until you said you were too lazy to check the labels. then I knew what was going to happen before you said anything more. If you won't check the labels the least I would expect is that you would check the spray on something else (not just in the air..)before you blasted your model.

I hope you learned a few things? being lazy around spray cans is just bad. always, always, always, test your spray on something else. and last but not least, take the time to affix your labels so this doesn't happen in the future.

I feel bad in that you toasted a great model. I hope you can fix it with little trouble too.

For what it is worth, the dullcote can looks pretty much exactly the same as the black and the grey primer, not like they have different color caps, even if you label them, you can make that mistake quite easily if you are not paying attention.
