    A few general questions

    Hi
A few situations cropped up in a recent game and im not sure if we've been playing them right. Sorry if its me just mis-reading the rules. Here they are..

    1. What happens to Grenade (or other blast attacks) if the POI is out of range, does the shot dissipate/explode midair or does it still scatter in a random direction?

    2. When an enemy unit is within your Threat Zone but is standing behind you (no scenery is blocking any potential LOS) can you target any other fighter outside of the Threat Zone or do you have to turn around and target that unit if you wish to shoot? If so what happens when you only have 1 AP left, can you not shoot?

    3. When casting Friendly Animosity (or any other casting that targets squads) and the memebers of the target squad have different DF what DF value do you use to work out the TN?

    Hey and welcome:

    1. What happens to Grenade (or other blast attacks) if the POI is out of range, does the shot dissipate/explode midair or does it still scatter in a random direction?
    This may cause some stink.
I suspect a lot of people do not play this as written
An AOE is just a Ranged Assault.
According to Step 2 of a Ranged assault if the target (in this case a POI) is out of range, the AP is "wasted," (Genesis & Essence pg 31 [both]).

You must attempt to shoot the Enemy in your Threat Zone if LOS is not obscured (LOS is 360 degrees, Firing is 180 -- thus the question)

However, you can FREE SPIN to shoot them (Genesis pg 27; Essence pg 23), eliminating the issue of 1AP.
"An unengaged Unit may change its direction during its Activation before each AP is spent"

    3. When casting Friendly Animosity (or any other casting that targets squads) and the memebers of the target squad have different DF what DF value do you use to work out the TN?
Effects such as these which effect an entire Squad still only TARGET a single member of the Squad.
Declare the target UNIT, not the SQUAD.
Resolve the action against the Target UNIT only. IF the Target UNIT is affected, its entire SQUAD is affected as well.
(Remember such things and Leadership PS in these cases, of course)
Picking out weaker members of a Squad to dump on the whole troupe is a good tactic.

Thanks for the response, i nether relised that you could free spin per AP used, meaning facing isnt as important as thought it was (?).

I forgot one other question. Can you ignore targets in your threat zone if it is engaged in combat or can you only ignore them if targets further away have less AS modifiers (less then atleast the -2 for shooting engaged units)?

    ta.

you can ignore it if it's engaged. And engaged target is not really considered a threat.

    This may cause some stink.

that's how we do it. pick your target, measure range, if it's not in range, you blew it. lol. it doesn't really matter at that point what the grenade does.

Just looked in my copy of Essence and on pg23 it says
"A unit may not turn while using an AP for CA or RA".
    Has this been changed?

No nothing has changed you cannot interrupt an action with another action. I don't have a copy of Essence in front of me but in Genesis p27 Combat Fundamentals (There should be a similar chpt is Essence) under Attack & Firing Arc you can change your facing, with exceptions of course. You have to change the facing before you spend the AP to make a RA.
