I expect by "alternative" he means a miniature game that is not strictly a fantasy, historical or classic science fiction game. As a post apocalyptic alien world type game, Dark Age could fit into that category.

I don't think that's the case TMF as he has Infinity, Flames of War, Kings of War and a number of other 'standard' category games in his top menu bar on his blog. Plus he just reviewed some Heavy Gear stuff.
I'm more inclined to throw my vote into the 'non-GW' category as he's got Warmachine and Hordes up there as well.Throne of Angels Video Blog - ARE YOU WATCHING?
