Possible New Player Looking for some advice

    Hello All,

Dark Age Apocalypse has come up in conversation a few times at the LGS the last couple of weeks and I'm considering getting into the game. Due to a very bad case of "Shiny New Model Synrome" and "Gamer's ADHD" I invariably collect at least two forces (To put that in perspective I own 9 WHFB armies at 2000+ points and can drop 50+ points for all but 3 PP factions).

Having scanned through the online pics I really like the look of The Brood (both the Numbskull and Howler look great) but can't decide on my second faction (Skarrd and Core have been tapped by two other players at the LGS so they're out).

Would appreciate some advice of what to purchase for The Brood beyond the starter box and a brief run down on how all the factions play (I looked around the forums and could only find tactica on a few lists) so I can make a more informed decision.

Thanks in advance for any advice/input.

    Hi Alphadork:

    Welcome to the boards!

I'll start with the easy stuff first: If you're looking expand beyond the Starter box for Brood, here's some fun options:

    List 1
    Mean Jellybean
    - Toxic Vapor Biogen
    - Venom Spray Biogen
    2x Ratchets
    2x Sawblades
    2x Brood Hounds

    - This list gives you a good base to work towards putting a Numbskull in your list. It meets the requirements of Broodswarm: Exterminate, which gives all your models the Tough as Nails ability (which negates the extra wound you take from rolling a "20" on an armor test as well as a bonus to poison tests). Its a more smashmouth army and comes in at 490 points (so would be a good take at 500).

    List 2
    Mutros
    - Adrenaline Biogen
    2x Ratchets
    2x Brood Hounds
    1x Gazella
    2x Grists

    - This is a more tricky, hit and run oriented army. Its a great base of an army for Howler and clocks in at 490 points as well.

As for a second faction, Forsaken have a lot of flexibility due to the various sub factions (each Saint has troops that only work for them and as a result have slightly different playstyles). The balance on this game is great bar one or two models, so you have a lot of "vialble" options. Let me know what you like the looks of and I'll give you some advise on how to make it work.

    Cheers!

    - Owen

Ummm - nearly all of them? (See "Shiny Model Syndrome" above)

If forced to narrow it down -

Skarrd (given green light to consider them)
    Father Curwen
    Hoodoo
    Jon Woe
    Kaustic

    Dragyri:
    Arbiter of Fate
    Frostbite
    Blizzard
    Arbiter of Balance
    Whisper
    Wail
    Tempest

Really, most of the models in the line look great but the ones listed above jumped out at me.

    @McNs

Was looking at the PDF copy of the Brood cards on the website and it looks like the Sawblades are only available for 1000pt plus lists. I haven't picked up the Force List Books yet - want to make one sizable order.

I'm starting the brood for sure and based on your lists above plan on purchasing the following:
Starter Box, Saw Blades, Grists, Mean Jelly Bean, Mutros, Numbskull and the Howler - do I need a few more models to be able to get the Numbskull or Howler on the table?

Also have narrowed down second army to one of the following three
Skarrd with Father Curwen or Father Mayhem
Forsaken with Saint Mary or Saint Mark
Outcasts with Mongo and as many Brutes as I can stick in the list

Would great appreciate advice/input on a purchase plan for the above three armies.

@McNs - I looked at the PDF cards for the Brood on the website and if I'm reading the right (don't have Forcelists book yet to confirm) the Sawblades can only be fielded in a 1000pt army? Or is there a special rule depending on your force selection (you mentioned that the Mean Jellybean list you posted meets the requirements for Broodswarm: Exterminate).

Again, thanks for the help. I did some more reading and model searching and think my second force will be one of the following three:

Forsaken lead by either Sain Mary or Saint Mark.
    Skarrd led by Father Curwen
    Outcasts with Mongo and Brutes

Any suggestions on what to purchase for any of the above armies would be greatly appreciated.
