Help the old gamer spend his money wisely
Hey All,
My apologies for the lengthy post, but I'd really appreciate some advice/input deciding which models to start out my Dark Age Apocalypse collection with. I've narrowed down my faction choices to Forsaken, Skarrd and Brood. Below are my planned purchases for each of them (will likely be starting two of the three).
Forsaken:
Warband
Saint Mary
Contradiction
Clergy Ann x2
Flenses x3
Saint Mark
Shade x2
Junkers x3
Hepzibah
Bane Leader
Skarrd:
Buzz Blades x6
Bone Doc
Father Curwen
Chitin
Kaustic
Hoodoo
Toxic Mistress x2
Father Mayhem
Red
Blood Reign
Blood Mistress x2
Puppet x2
Brood:
Warband
MJB
Sawblade x2
Mandible
Hexera
Lasher x2
Scion
I really like the look of both Numbskull and Howler but am not sure if I should pick them up to start (probably leaning towards Numbskull)
So, do the above "purchase plans" give me decent model selection for 500pt lists and did I miss any key units I'll need to expand them to 750pts.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

You mentioned purchasing a Bane Leader, so I'll assume you also meant to pick up Banes as well...
For Saint Mary my specific list is as follows:
Saint Mary (130)
Flense x2 (120)
Clergy Ann x2 (120)
Bane x3 (With Leader) (125)
495/500
A good taste of everything Saint Mary brings to the table while still holding the numbers I'd like to see at 500.
-------------------
Saint Mark (135)
Junker x2 (130)
Reaver (75)
Shade x2 (100)
++Sister of Compassion (60)
500/500
I know you're not getting the Sister (initially), but if you want to include the Mark specific units then she is the best thing to fill the points area left after adding all the rest.
-------------------
Father Curwin (135)
Kaustic (50)
Buzzblade x5 (125)
Toxic Mistress x2 (110)
Chitin (75)
495/500
The above list shows the full psychogenics and range power of the Toxic Cult.
---------------------
Father Mayhem (125)
Buzzblade x5 (125)
Blood Reign (50)
Red (60)
Blood Mistress x2 (110)
Puppet x1 (20)
And this list is just "Blood Cult kills everything"!
-------------------
On the subject of the Brood, you're getting such a large amount that many, many difference forces can be created with that list, whether you want one to just beat face (Broodspawn: Eradicate) or something with a bit more speed and subtly (Broodspawn: Guile).
For your initial question though, the above models give you about half a dozen or so lists your can create, all in keeping with their own individual fluff, flavor, and play-style.

@Mr. Black - Many thanks for all the lists you posted!
As to the Banes, I'd planned on getting the Forsaken Warband box for the Banes (thought they'd be good with St. Mary), Coil (thought they'd be good with St. Mark) and the Warwind (seems like a solid unit in general).
Based on your thoughts above I might just pick up 3 Banes and a Sister of Compassion instead of the box.
All the models in the range look great and it's proving a challenge to narrow it down my "purchase plan" (I have a chronic case of shiny new model syndrome).
As for the Brood would really appreciate anyone posting some 750pt lists that feature the Numbskull and Howler. I'm commited to Mean Jellybean but could happily take either Mutros or Hexera.
Again, thanks for helping the old gamer sort through all the thoughts in his age-addle brain.

Wasteland Warrior
Outcast
I'm gonna get around to doing a Brood list based around Murtros and sawblades one of these days.
In the meantime for a list involving the models you mentioned I might try something like this at 750:
MJB 125
Numbskull 160
sawblades x2 170
Howler 185
and two grists (not mentioned on your list originally but extremely useful) 100
total 740
A similar but different list I might go like this:
Murtros 110
Numbskull 160
Broodhounds x4 200 (good to tie units up in combat while larger units close in)
Sawblades x2 170
grist x2
total 740
Brood are fun to play with but can often end up being hampered by lower numbers. Yes your larger guys are tough, but they can get overwhelmed when trying to deal with multiple enemy positions. Mix em up however you like and have fun.
