    Help me understand/build a Pud-theme brood army

I have no intention of winning any tourneys but I got to thinking and wanted to try a pud-theme army just for fun.
...but I'm not quite sure I understand them correctly. So, please correct me on my understanding of the following points:

    1. One Pud swarm can be purchased per 1000 points at 100 points a pop but individual Puds cannot. When Pods are released I can buy an additional swarm per Pod in my force.
    2. individual Puds can only be brought into play with a unit with the Pud Control ability. Currently only the Pod (unreleased) and Pud Throwers have this ability.
    3. Pud throwers (and Pods) each have 3 "hibernating" Puds. Puds don't activate as a normal unit does. Instead, the controller model can spend an AP to activate one of their 3 or any friendly Pud within 4".
    4. Per the "Pud Powers" ability non-hibernating Puds get a free activation after lingering effects.

If I am understanding the main points above then I intend on purchasing 3 packs of Puds, and 1 of Pud Throwers. 1 pack of Puds will be modeled on a 50mm base for a swarm and the others will be on their individual 30mm bases.

    1 swarm for 100 points
    2 throwers for 170

What would balance out a 500 point list? Where is the obvious weakness? I'm not a brood player at all (yet) so I welcome all points of view.

Where should I go from here to 750 points? Let's pretend the Pods are out and I take one in my army and another swarm. That puts us at 445. Remember, the whole points is to fit as many fun-loving Puds on the table while still having a viable army.

First of all, there are as far as I know of, three units with pud control(3)

    - Mandible
    - POD
    - Pud Thrower

So, for a 500-pts list, I would take the following:

    1 Mandible 115
    2 Pud Throwers 170
    1 Pud Swarm 100
    1 POD 75
    2 Broodlings 40
    ______+
    500

Thrown puds and the broodlings can tie up ranged enemies and more scary melee enemies till he POD can facehug them and the Mandible allows for some heavy attack power.
Also, this list allows for a grand total of 12 puds, ready to kill

When increasing to 750, add more PODs, another swarm, a broodhound (for sniffing out infiltrators) and maybe drop out the broodlings.

Drag0on's 500 point list is spot on. As far as obvious weaknesses, as you go with a larger and larger force template weapons can really be your bane since the puds are only 1 HP figures. Also since you have limited control over where they move due to pud rules and the inherent inaccuracy of using throwers to toss some, a canny opponent can manipulate events to force them to group up. You will also be lacking any real hard hitting (high POW) melee units and might have trouble with real high AR units. Also remember that puds do not get the ganging up bonus so in larger games your superior numbers will not really benefit you as much as say a Dragyri slave force or broodling based force.
There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those that understand binary and those that don't.

    PPPUUUUUDDDDSSSSSSSS!!!!!

    AAAHHHHH!!!!!

    I love these lil' guys!

As far as lists go, for all intents and purposes Drago0on stole my Studio List for 500 points.

At 750 I would remove the Broodlings, add a POD, Swarm, and two Grists for some range support, though really the possibilities are numerous...

Of course, if you want Pud-o-Mania...

    Pud Thrower x3 (255)
    Mandible (115)
    Pod x3 (225)
    Pud Swarm x1 (100)
    Broodling x2 (40)
    735/750

That list is if you just want to cover the board in Puds (since you can spew out 21 of the lil' bastards.

I'm just wondering if it's possible to have a Brood army without Puds!

While we are on the subject of puds and brood. Brood seem to be the only force yet to have subdivisions (saints for forsaken, cults for skarrd, castes for dragyri, I don't count outcasts because they are too new) Will there be subdivisions for brood and will one of them be pud centric?

Brood actually have divisions in the form of the Broodspawns.

Huh? <goes back and rummages through force list book> so there are. I missed those completely. Will there ever be a put centric broodspawn?

The Murtros list is evil and a blast to play even against other brood armies.
